Health and Fitness Guide for Busy Entrepreneurs

Find your exercise preferences

There are two main exercise options available that can help you achieve a healthy workout and these include outdoor or indoor activities. Exercise doesn’t have to be something arduous and dreadful as many may interpret the process. Outdoor exercise can include something you love like shooting hoops in basketball or going to the tennis court with a friend to let off some steam. There’s nothing wrong with intensive vigorous cardio on a machine indoors either if you want to really break a sweat. It’s important to weigh your individual preferences and take action!

Utilize morning and nighttime routines

Often times entrepreneurs have to travel extended distances and then are busy through the entire day which leaves little room to accomplish their exercise goals. It’s imperative to mitigate this time limitation by utilizing the early morning or late night hours where you won’t be interrupted. Furthermore, exercising in the morning helps to stimulate the mind and give you more focus on the aspect of your business that matter. Nighttime is great too because it means that you’re done with work for the day and can focus intently on getting a productive workout. It will also benefit your sleep to exercise before bed because your body will naturally fall into the state of deep regenerative sleep easier. Both of these times are great for fitting in that elusive workout on a busy entrepreneurial schedule.

Consider short bursts of exercise

If you can’t seem to find time in the morning or night to do your exercise routine or are simply just too exhausted overall to conduct a lengthy workout then perhaps consider trying short intensive bursts of exercise. This is very effective before and after meals to maintain an optimal level of health. It doesn’t take much time to get the blood pumping and start burning a few calories. That feeling after you eat will be addressed because your metabolism will get a boost and allow your body to absorb the food quicker. If you have a traveling schedule then one of the best tools to accomplish this method of exercise is with portable resistance bands that are lightweight and convenient. This doesn’t mean you will get a sub-par workout because these bands can create resistance of up to 50 pounds.

Use a portion of your lunch break

The lunch break is a time where you will indefinitely have some downtime each day because everyone has to eat. This is an excellent time to squeeze in a workout and it’s best done before you eat because then you will digest the food quicker. There’s nothing like having a satiating meal after earning it with an intensive cardio routine. Business operations often require entrepreneurs to sit for long periods of time in front of the computer screen, but exercising during your lunch break will allow you to sit more comfortably when you return because the body has been more active. A lot of people simply get lunch and then return to their work and this can give a feeling of heaviness and even sleepiness which is why people supplement with coffee. Exercise during this time will cement a routine that can benefit you as it becomes habitual.

Prioritize exercise in your spare time

Throughout the day there are periods of time where you might read or play your favorite game. If you have a lot of hobbies then consider toning down a couple of them to make room for a good exercise routine involving weights, cardio, or sports activities. Finding something you enjoy is important because then it will be more likely you can cement it into your routine. Competition is an effective motivator so if you enjoy striving to compete and win something then you won’t even notice you’re breaking a sweat. It’s the activities where you have the most fun that doesn’t feel like exercise at all and that’s a key to ensuring you don’t get bored with the same thing. Step outside the box and experiment with new activities such as ping pong, rock climbing, tennis, or even swimming for an effective full-body workout!

Find a workout partner to motivate you

Working out alone can have its benefits such as increased focus and fewer distractions, but sometimes it’s better for certain personalities to have another person there to motivate you in the right direction. Encouragement in the gym or outdoors is a crucial part of the experience for some people and you’re less likely to throw in the towel if someone is there to push you past the limit. Tracking progress together can be a fun and enlightening experience as you notice your endurance increase over time. Competitive sports are impossible without someone else to strive against while you encourage each other to get better. The prospect of winning something like tennis is motivation to keep the body moving and give your all to top your last score and break an intense sweat that will make all the difference!

Always hydrate and fuel the body on the go

In the heat of the moment, it’s easy to lose track of the essentials your body needs to stay alert and healthy. Firstly, you should always stay hydrated throughout your exercise activities and this is especially true for the outdoors because the heat can be more intensive than indoors and you sweat more. A rule of thumb is to drink around 8-10 glasses of water a day or more depending on how much you push yourself. In addition, one should pay careful attention to their diet to ensure they have enough essential vitamins and minerals to encourage healthy bones. This is especially important in weight lifting or it can make your body weaker over time. It’s important to get enough protein after your workout to repair the muscles, but before you engage in vigorous exercise the body needs a healthy source of carbohydrates for sustained energy. Foods rich in calcium are also a good idea before your workout because they will help repair any damage as you push it to the limit.
