Wholesome Weekend Activities for Those Stuck-at-home Amid the Pandemic

At this point, many if not all have been impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic in some way. Whether it was through the indirect effects of the health crisis wreaking havoc on our economic systems, or the direct repercussions of the threat on our ability to traverse daily life, this coronavirus has been cemented in our minds as the event of the decade. Now, as we see the rollout of its vaccines, safety precautions have eased and the days of lockdown and quarantine are coming to an end. We are slowly but certainly approaching the dawn of life post-covid. As such, we are now stuck with the issue of finding ourselves entertainment, and a way to spend the necessary time and energy we have wasted being locked in our homes. So what are the activities we can now engage in? Let’s explore.

Zoo

These spots have always been a little treasure in our hearts in regards to providing us something to indulge in while we get acquainted with nature. Housing animals that range from exotic species to our endemic ones, it is any sight for sore eyes to see these creatures mingling. Especially after not seeing much of anything outside the four walls of our home-space, is considered a welcome relief to have an open view. Combining this view with the spirit of animals just as eager to be out there, gives a whole new sense of peace inside. Bring a friend along, or your family, and have a walk through an amalgamation of nature’s best and most inventive.

Nature Walk

On the note of getting well-acquainted with nature, if caged animals make you uncomfortable, then perhaps a walk through an open garden or tourist field might be better for you. It goes without saying that a some fresh air does a body good. Getting yourself in a space to take in the cool, natural breeze of trees in nature will give you clarity and peace of mind like never before. Take a blanket with you, and some food, and this setting becomes ideal for a picnic (just remember to clean up after yourself afterwards). Being out in nature is such a contrast to the quarantine atmosphere, that your physical side will certainly thank you for it.

Coffee Shop

Even if you don’t drink coffee, the ambience of a coffee shop is more than welcoming, and a healthy hub of human interaction. Given the state of the virus, it is understandable avoiding places where too many people cross paths. However, in a bid to aim for normalcy as quickly as possible, hearing one or two customers ask for a mocha might not be too bad of an initiative. It could be a while again before our streets are busy with people rushing to and from trying to get this or that done. A coffee shop provides the sensation of a normal day or week to its patrons at all times, simply due to the atmosphere it provides. How well you can put this to use is totally up to you, but a coffee shop will always be highly recommended to get over quarantine blues.

Movies

We are well aware that over the past year, Netflix has become almost central in our lives in providing entertainment to our bored souls. However, now that quarantine is over, we can opt retreat back to the good old times of buttery popcorn, soft seats, and overpriced snacks. To the theater’s credit, the movies is more of an experience than a function. Being in a area packed people who, like you, are fed up of being home, quickly gives a sense of camaraderie among all those present, and reminds us of the smallest moments of human connection. Now, you can opt to watch a movie with a host of strangers that, like you, just want to watch a movie and pretend the crisis was just as fictional as the movie on-screen, even briefly.

Restaurant

Closing out our list, this activity almost needs no mentioning. Eating out should be on everyone’s to-do list. The closing down of restaurants was almost heartbreaking to see, from our favorite chill spots, to large food chains, these treasures were dear to our hearts as a place to gather and be merry. Talking about the ambience of coffee shops and movie theaters, restaurants are twice that as they also provide good food, which for itself is a priceless experience. Now that we are slowly but surely seeing the opening of most business places again, we know restaurants are soon to follow. Though some are enclosed, and pose problems in terms of accommodation, it still will be quite the treat to enjoy our food favorites again, around the family and friends that we adore.

Truly, covid-19 was a scare. Yet, in some ways, it brought us even closer together, as we worked to ascertain our health and survival as a species. Now that we can mingle, let us practice doing so with the preservation of our health, and those around us, in mind. Excitement about being out can make us forget the measures put in place to protect us as we try to resume normalcy. So as we get back to our favorite spots, make safety a priority, so that we don’t have to return to being confined to the four walls of our home due to the coronavirus.
